BIOGRAFIE:Current position: Managing Director bol.com
Daniel (1972) has been involved with bol.com since its inception in 1998. In his capacity as consultant with McKinsey & Company, Germany, working on an assignment for media conglomerate Bertelsmann, he co-wrote the first businessplan for bol.com.
After the conclusion of this assignment, Daniel took a management leave from McKinsey & Co, and joined bol.com in the Netherlands as an interim-manager in the role of Finance & Business Development Director for the start-up company. In 2000, Daniel decided to stay with bol.com and took on the role of Managing Director. During the nine years since Daniel took over the helm, bol.com has developed into a profitable and still fast growing company with revenues of 224 Million Euro (2008).
Today, bol.com is by far the largest and most popular online store in the Benelux. Bol.com is market leading in the online retail of books, entertainment, and electronics to Dutch speaking consumers, and has become one of the largest retailers in the Dutch market for media products.
Bol.com continues to grow and expand. The company has successfully expanded into selling laptop computers and TVs, and launched a second hand book service which within a year has made bol.com the largest second hand book retailer of the Netherlands, overtaking Ebay and local competitors in terms of products offered and transactions in its first year.
In 2009, bol.com introduced Digital Reading in the Netherlands, by making a large selection of ebooks available to consumers for the first time.
Next to his work at bol.com, Daniel is serving as a member of the Supervisory Board of Thuiswinkel.org. He holds a similar position in the Supervisory Board of the leading Dutch housing and real estate site Funda.nl.
Daniel has completed his MSc in Business Economics and holds a Master in Global Economics and Business Studies from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and the Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC) in Cergy Pontoise, France.
Daniel was born in Freiburg, Germany, has been living in the Netherlands since 1984, and is currently living in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with his spouse Barbara and their two children.
