Thuiswinkel.org meets up with EU Commissioner Viviane Reding

Last week in Paris, representatives of European web shop organisations met up with EU-commissioner Viviane Reding, whose responsibilities include data communication and privacy. The meeting was organised by the French sister organisation of Thuiswinkel.org, FEVAD. Representatives of Thuiswinkel.org and its sister organisations from the UK and Belgium were also present.

The impact of EU legislation on cross-border e-commerce was discussed during an exclusive dinner that took place on 23rd September. Data protection and privacy issues were also on the agenda. One of the upcoming newsletters will include a detailed report of this exceptional get-together. Guests also included, in addition to Thuiswinkel.org and its sister organisations, members of the European parliament and French retailers. The gathering was boycotted by right-wing members of the European parliament in response to earlier statements made by Reding about the deportation of Romani families from France.
