Europe needs a broader variety of payment solutions. Ecommerce Europe (ecommerce-europe.eu) made this comment today in a response to the European Commission’s green paper on online payments. The European Commission is currently focusing too much on reducing the costs of payment systems, whereas e-commerce players also have other requirements.
This morning Thuiswinkel.org, the lobby group for webshops in the Netherlands, welcomed its 1500th member. Ed Nijpels, chairman, handed over the accompanying certificate to Hans Nouwens and Geert Jan van Nunen of 4me (4me.mobi) (see photo). This company provides mobile transactions by means of QR-codes.
The new European association for online retailers, Ecommerce Europe, is operational. The website, ecommerce-europe.eu, is now online and the first members and business partners have already registered. Proposed members of the Executive Committee Annette Falberg, Wijnand Jongen and Marc Lolivier: “We are ready and waiting. It was high time that the interests of online retailers were represented at the European level.”
The National Thuiswinkel Awards 2012 have been awarded! 24 Dutch webshops have been distinguished as the best in their category. The public's XL prizes were awarded to 20 winners in 20 categories. Furthermore, four professional prizes were presented for the Best Starter, Best Mobile Webshop, the Best Webshop Award and the Cross-Border E-Commerce Award.
The turnover in the sale of products and services via internet increased, despite the crisis, to reach €9 billion in 2011. This is apparent from the Thuiswinkel Market Monitor 2011-2, the bi-annual research into online consumer expenditure carried out by Blauw Research in collaboration with GfK Retail & Technology. The research is commissioned by Thuiswinkel.org, the association that promotes the interests of about 1,500 webshops in the Netherlands.
