Putting home-shopping into economic perspective

Thuiswinkel.org sees it as its task to properly map out the Dutch home-shopping market in the Netherlands. To this end, twice yearly they publish the Thuiswinkel Market Monitor (TMM), which describes the current economic state of affairs within the Dutch branch. These periodical studies are realised in collaboration with the research bureaus, Blauw Research and GfK Retail and Technology.

A good indicator for assessing the trade figures of the home-shopping branch is to compare them with the trade figures of the traditional retail trade. These statistics are presented in graphs and tables over a number of years in order to make them more meaningful.

This website provides not only the turnover statistics of the Hoofdbedrijfschap Detailhandel (HBD), but also those of Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The trade figures for the retail trade of the CBS are higher than those of the HBD. The reason for this is that the CBS statistics include expenditure that falls outside the product range of businesses in the retail trade, whilst the HBD does not.
