Retail trade turnover 2009: 81.5 billion According to the statistics of the HBD, the retail trade turnover increased steadily, from 75.7 billion euros in 2002 to 81.5 billion euros (incl. VAT) in 2009. There was a reduction in comparison with one year previously: the turnover in 2008 was 85 billion euros. That was particularly due to a fall in the non-food turnover which amounted to 48.5 billion euros in 2008 and 44.6 billion euros in 2009 . In 2009 the turnover in food was almost 37 billion euros.
