Home-shopping turnover in retail trade 8.47% of the total retail trade turnover was realised via home-shopping channels in 2009. In that year the ‘traditional’ retail trade achieved a turnover of 81.5 billion euros. Home-shopping, including sales via catalogues and via the post, had a turnover of 6.9 billion euros in 2009.
It is important to note here that this much-used benchmark is inaccurate: the home-shopping turnover figures include the online sales of travel, insurance and tickets. The benchmark does provide an indication of the growing share that home-shopping has in the retail trade.
The turnover in the traditional retail trade continued to grow steadily during the past five years. That of home-shopping doubled in the same period.
