Number of home-retailers and web-shops in the Netherlands

More than 20,000 web-shops in the Netherlands 
The number of home-retailers and web-shops in the Netherlands keeps on growing each year. Thuiswinkel.org estimates the annual growth between 2005 and 2009 at about 2,500 new web-shops per year. This brings the number of web-shops in 2010 up to more than 20,000 web-shops that are selling products or services to consumers (b-t-c).

Thuiswinkel.org’s estimate is significantly higher than the number of web-shops registered with the Chamber of Commerce and the CBS [Statistics Netherlands]. The Chamber of Commerce only includes web-shops that have registered as web-shops. This excludes many small, medium and large businesses because they are categorised under a different SBI-code and as a result are not registered as web-shops.
