Become a member

Businesses or organisations that realise (part of) their turnover by means of distance selling of products and/or services to consumers – and which are therefore subject to the relevant legislation – can apply for (candidate-) membership of Thuiswinkel.org.

Distance selling is defined as: a system for selling over distance, organised by the seller or provider of a service, whereby one or more techniques for communication over distance are used exclusively up to and including closure of the contract.

If a company is part of a holding, then either the company or the holding decides who will become a member. If the holding becomes a member, it must indicate which of its organisations and/or labels are involved in distance selling to consumers. The association’s list of members includes only the names of businesses, operating companies or labels that deal directly with consumers.

Membership for newly started web-shops
The association offers ‘Candidate-membership’ for newly started companies which are as yet unable to provide a financial annual report. Such businesses may have started their activities no longer than two years earlier. Candidate-members have the same rights and obligations as ‘normal’ members, on the understanding that they cannot hold a position on the executive board and that they do not have voting rights during the General Members’ Meeting. Candidate-membership can be held for a maximum of three years.

Candidate-members may only display the "Candidate-member of Thuiswinkel.org"-logo.

Businesses involved in activities that are detrimental to the image of distance selling will be rejected or their membership will be terminated.
